Computers Have Revolutionized Almost Everything

By Zach Jacobs

There have been a lot of advancements over the last 50 years and perhaps none have been more important than that of the computer. When you stop to consider it, the computer impacts everything about your life. It is a bit mind numbing.

The computer has evolved greatly from its beginning. When computers first started they took up an entire room by themselves. Now, you can have one sit on your lap while you look at its 9" screen and type on a keyboard that is not any bigger. We refer to our computers as a pc, or personal computer because they are just that.

We have even now taken the computer and implemented it into our cell phones. This concept of a computer on our phone is absolutely amazing. It allows for so many applications of a computer while we are away from home and any other computer.

There are a lot of people that are on a computer for more hours a day than they are not. This happens because they have a job that requires them to be on a computer all day and then they choose to be on them at home for many different reasons. In fact, many jobs exist today that did not exist in the past because of computers. It is true that some jobs were lost as a result of the advancement of the computer, but the balance weighs heavily in more jobs created than taken.

Pc's are now a required of college students. Almost every aspect of what they do at college now requires a computer and anyone who attempts to go to college without one would find themselves failing miserably. Some have raised the concern that good penmanship is becoming a tragedy from abundant use of computers. However, in all honesty there does not seem to be a need for good penmanship beyond being able to write clear enough that others can read what is written.

Computers have even reached the car industry. Many aspects of our car are controlled by a computer as we travel down the road. Some of those things include the traction control, anti lock brakes, air/fuel mixture and on star for those who have that.

Even restaurants have been impacted by the computer. If you go out to eat, you will notice that they have computers to input the orders so that they are not lost and also so they can keep better track of which orders need to be done when.

There is no question that pc's have become a part of nearly every household in America along with the majority of homes in a lot of other countries. They have also pushed into the work place in most every industry. Our research, study, socializing, new reading, picture sharing and many other areas have all been revolutionized by the computer. There is no question that the computer was the biggest and in some regards the best advancement in the last 50 years. - 30432
